Ngorongoro Crater

Driving down into the crater at first light is one of those moments people talk about for years. Twenty kilometres wide, walled by forest, and holding around 25,000 animals that mostly never leave.

It is the best single day in Tanzania for a chance at all of the Big Five, including the black rhino that still graze the crater floor. We aim to be at the descent gate as it opens so you get the quiet hours before the day trippers arrive.
