Lake Manyara

A green strip of forest, flamingo-pink water and those famous tree-climbing lions — perfect for a gentle first day.

About Lake Manyara

A narrow, green strip between the Rift Valley escarpment and a soda lake, Manyara packs an extraordinary amount into a small area — groundwater forest, open floodplain, hot springs and flamingo-pink shallows.

It is famous for tree-climbing lions, though they are shy and never guaranteed. Even without them, the baboon troops, elephants in the forest and the view from the escarpment make for a beautiful half or full day.
