Shorter drives, swimming pools, junior ranger activities and guides who genuinely enjoy showing kids their first elephant.
We built this trip around families. The driving days are shorter, every lodge has a pool, and the activities are designed so children stay curious and happy — from tracking with a ranger to beadwork with Maasai women. Parents get the safari they dreamed of too.
A gentle first day to shake off the flight, with a family suite and a pool. Airport meet with child car seats already fitted to the vehicle. Afternoon swimming and garden time; early kids' dinner available. Guide briefing for the parents while the children get their safari activity packs.

The perfect warm-up park — no lions, so walking and canoeing are allowed. Canoe safari on Little Momella lake among giraffe, zebra, waterbuck and flamingo. Short guided walk to the Tululusia waterfall with a ranger. Game drive through the Ngurdoto crater rim forest for black-and-white colobus monkeys. Back at the lodge by mid-afternoon for pool time.

Elephants, baobabs and a half-day drive — deliberately kept short for young attention spans. Morning game drive along the river where elephants come to drink at close range. Kids' spotting checklist and binocular practice with your guide. Afternoon junior ranger session at camp: animal tracks, dung ID and a bush skills quiz. Early dinner and a stargazing session with a laser pointer.

A morning with a Maasai family, arranged directly with the community rather than through a tourist boma. Learn to throw a spear, light a fire with sticks and herd goats with the children of the village. Beadwork session with the women and a look inside a traditional home. Lunch in Mto wa Mbu, a village where over 100 Tanzanian tribes live side by side. Afternoon transfer to a farm lodge in Karatu with space to run around.

The single most rewarding day for children — animals everywhere, all day, in one enclosed bowl. Early descent with a hot breakfast box in the car. Rhino, elephant, lion, hippo, zebra, flamingo and hyena, often within a few hours. Picnic lunch beside the hippo pool with plenty of space to stretch legs. Return to the lodge by mid-afternoon for a swim.

A relaxed final park day with a treetop canopy walkway and a short game drive. Suspended canopy walk 18 m above the groundwater forest — a big hit with older kids. Game drive for baboon troops, hippo and the hot springs at Maji Moto. Bike ride or farm tour back at the lodge in the afternoon.

Drive back to Arusha with a souvenir stop before the airport. Curio shopping at the cultural heritage centre. Day room for showers and repacking if your flight is late. Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
