Mount Meru

At 4,566m Meru is a serious mountain in its own right, and a superb warm-up if you plan to climb Kilimanjaro afterwards. You walk with an armed ranger through Arusha National Park, often passing giraffe and buffalo on day one.

The final ridge walk to the summit at dawn, with Kilimanjaro floating above the clouds in the distance, is one of the finest views in Tanzania.
